Improving access to the bath
Improving access to the bath
Our bath is a narrow, high old enamel style. Whilst bathing one night, I slipped over and because I was wet and tired from the heat of the shower, I could not get up. I tried pulling myself up on a towel rail, but the ceramic ends broke. I tried to pull the shower curtain across and accidentally pulled the whole sprung loaded pole down. This came in useful allowing me to use the pole to turn the shower taps off. This allowed me to dry enough to get a grip and finally climb out of the bath.
To prevent any of this happening again I now use a bench seat across the bath and fitted two handrails, which will take the weight of a person and don’t look unsightly.
By using the bench I can steady myself with the handrail at the side of the bath whilst lift my legs into the bath one leg at a time. Both handrails shown are helpful for steadying myself when standing in the shower.
